Common questions
What is a spoon?
It's a unit of energy. The idea comes from spoon theory, which Christine Miserandino wrote in 2003 to explain what living with lupus is like: you wake up with a set number of spoons, everything you do costs some, and when they're gone they're gone.
In Spoondraw a spoon is whatever you decide it is. Some people count one spoon as roughly half an hour of effort, others as one hard thing. There's no correct conversion — the number only has to make sense to you.
How do I decide how many spoons I have today?
Guess. Genuinely. You'll get a feel for your own numbers within a week or two, and guessing low costs you nothing — if you finish early you can always add more.
Why won't it let me go above 15 spoons?
Because past that, the list stops being something you can look at without flinching, and a wall of tasks is the thing this app exists to prevent. If you're regularly hitting the ceiling, it's usually a sign your tasks are costed a bit low.
Something I need to do today didn't get dealt.
Mark it as a must-do and it will always be included, even if it pushes you over budget — you'll just get a heads-up when you confirm the day. You can also swipe a task you're not going to do and get a different one in its place.
Do I need an account?
No. Spoondraw has no sign-up, no password and no login. Your tasks are stored on your iPhone.
Will it sync to my iPad?
Syncing runs through your own iCloud account rather than a server of ours. It is being built now and is not in the first release — the waitlist gets told when it lands.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes everything stored on that device. If you had iCloud sync turned on, you can also remove Spoondraw's data in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage. Because we have no accounts and no server, there is nothing on our side to delete.
For the anonymous usage numbers, or to get off the waitlist, email us and we'll take care of it.
How do I turn off usage tracking?
Settings, inside the app. It's a single toggle and nothing stops working when you use it.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Through Apple, not through us: on your iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Spoondraw → Cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
I use VoiceOver, and something doesn't work.
Please tell us — this is the feedback we most want. Every gesture in Spoondraw is meant to have a plain equivalent, and every screen is meant to hold together at the largest text sizes. Where that isn't true, it's a bug and we'll fix it.
Is Spoondraw a medical device or a treatment?
No. It's a planning tool. It doesn't diagnose anything, doesn't treat anything, and isn't a substitute for advice from someone qualified to give it.
